I’ve been doing a lot of thinking on my chilly walks here in Northern Ireland, and I wanted to share something that’s really been touching my heart lately.
You know what’s absolutely magical about the holidays here? It’s watching everyone come home. The airports are like scenes from Love Actually – all these beautiful reunions, tears of joy, and the tightest hugs you can imagine. It’s not about what’s wrapped up under the tree – it’s what happens around the tree!
Let me tell you about something that completely melted my heart. There’s this incredible charity here called The Lapland Trust. Once a year, they do something extraordinary – charter an entire plane (can you believe they’re the only charity in the world doing this?) and fill it with 80 special children, many battling serious illnesses, and their families. They fly them off to Lapland for a real-life winter wonderland experience. Just imagine those little faces lighting up when they meet Santa!
It really puts things in perspective, doesn’t it? All those hours we spend worrying about finding the perfect gift or stressing over holiday preparations… when the real magic is in these simple, precious moments of connection.
Whether you’re celebrating big or small this year, I hope you can take a moment to pause and soak in the joy of just being present with your loved ones. Share those stories, laugh at those old family jokes, and cherish those little traditions that make your holidays special.
